Leah Crowne
Biography
Praised for her radiant tone, commanding stage presence, and emotional depth, dramatic soprano Leah Crowne captivates audiences in opera, concert, and recital repertoire alike. Her performances reveal both the power and vulnerability of the human voice, bringing vivid life to the heroines of Puccini, Verdi, Strauss, and Wagner.
Ms. Crowne’s notable engagements include Turandot with Opera Bergen in Norway, Salome with the Béziers Opera Forum under the baton of Michel Plasson, Kundry (Parsifal) with the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Tosca with Sarasota Opera, Isolde (Tristan und Isolde) with the New York Chamber Festival, and Brünnhilde with Opera Fest at Riverside conducted by José Serebrier.
Critics have hailed her performances as “thrillingly sung and deeply human” (The Middlebury Times), and “a voice of opulent beauty and formidable dramatic authority” (Broadway World). The Post described her Tosca as “a performance of searing vocal power and emotional precision.”
Overseas, Le Journal de Marseille praised her Salome for “its feverish intensity and hypnotic tone, recalling the golden age of Strauss sopranos,” while Bergens Tidende (Norway) lauded her Turandot as “majestic, with a gleaming top register that filled the hall with fire and light.”
In concert, Ms. Crowne has appeared as soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, and Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder, performing with orchestras and festivals across the United States and abroad.
In addition to her distinguished performance career, Leah serves as Education Manager of the York Symphony Orchestra, where she develops programs that connect thousands of students each year with the transformative power of live orchestral music.
A passionate recitalist and arts advocate, Ms. Crowne is dedicated to fostering musical curiosity and creativity in the next generation while continuing to explore the vast emotional landscape of the dramatic soprano repertoire.
